Registered User Posts: 87 05/06/08 07:55:42	First things first, anyone can get beat by 20 against Hara's. Hell, they beat us (Knights) by 20 on Sunday of the national tourney last year. It made for a bitter sweet finish, but it happened. We weren't throwing that game and never have, but it did happen. They are the class of the Northwest. With that being said..... There is only one inconsistancy that I see in all of this and it has to do with the motive for the aleged laying down being the bump to the next level. if you're in a championship game against a B (or better) team and you've beaten all the other established D teams to get there, it still doesn't mean you wont (or shouldn't for that matter) get bumped to C. If you're the top team in the division, it's in the best interest of the game to move your team to the C level. Even if you want to make a run at D nationals. The game is more important.

Registered User Posts: 55 05/06/08 19:55:39	If Demarini get's bumped to C than you can count out any local team finishing in the top 5 or 10 at nationals in Seattle. I promise you that the top 5 at least will be as good or better than Demarini is now. I personally would like to see a local team finish well at nationals and not some Cali team.... 2 years ago at D nationals the team that won nationals was 6-7 guys who did not start for Dan Smith's B team, and the second place team was better than TAI who took second at C nationals last year. Heck the top 5 were better. All you D teams that sit here and play all these cheesy local tourney's and don't go up and play the 20+ teams in Seattle area are also in for a big surprise come nationals. Many of those teams can hang with all the C teams up there and the VUSA and A-1/Hara's..... Ask them! I applaude a team like Demarini who is going to represent the Portland area softball at nationals. Maybe all you other so called D teams should do the same! Except for coming on the board and admitting that you talked about throwing a game. Not a good choice there!

Registered User Posts: 1420 05/07/08 08:04:00	Locally, we need to disregard all classifications and just call the tourney's competitive or rec. You want to play nationals, you are in the competitive bracket. You want to drink with your buddies and just play some ball, you are rec. At the end of the year let the teams go to whatever level they want. Nationals will reclass teams after their showing and then regional won't have to worry about it. There are rules in place that will not allow a team to sandbag 2 years in a row. There are rules in place that will not allow teams to merge that placed high the year before. Demarini is a D team until they finish top 3 in nationals. VUSA has placed like 5th at C for the past 3 or 4 years, does that make them a B team? No. Can they compete with B teams? Yes. Can upper tier D teams compete with C teams? Yes and they should be able to but after a 10 games series I'd say that the C team will win 75% of those games and that's what makes A1 a C team.

Registered User Posts: 105 05/07/08 09:26:46	FYI: The team (J&E) that won that "C" tournament in Minnesota in 2007 had roughly 6 players who DID start for the Smith "B" team that year. The D's was won by MVP in Cali at Twin Creeks. I think this year should be the year for a Pacific Northwest team to win a "D" National in ASA. You will probably see zero teams from Cali making the jump up there this year. Teams are concentrating on Usssa Florida and Vegas NSA. Plus the ASA program is basically nill this year in Cali/Nor Nev. WSL/ASA is trying something in October at the new complex in Reno/Sparks but interest has been minimal. The loading up is notorious in all regions each year. I will tell you the game has gotten a lot better the last 6-7 years in Washington/Oregon area. For those who played in the 90's you know you took a ton of lumps during those years and you've caught up fast. We've had our hands full the last two times we've went up there "Salem 2004 & Portland 2007". Last year we faced Knights, KTI, Hara's, and Cheerleaders and everyone took it to us. We just fell short against Hara's as they were steamrolling the loser's bracket. Throw in VUSA and A-1 those are some damn good teams up there. I do understand and don't understand the player/team ranking. We have 4 players who are still on the roster from last year's 3rd place ASA C team. So were ASA "B" now, we got hot that ONE weekend and now as a team with all of us on the roster cannot play ASA unless we play "B". Our new guys are all E/D ranked so we went to other associations and are now playing as a "D" team. Granted we (Last years team have 3 Usssa/Nsa C players and 1 D) so were good to go. Kinda of crazy but our team is ranked B in one and D in two others. FYI: we've gotten our asses kicked by this years B/C teams if your wondering. My opinion is let your teams load up this year and give it a shot in the D's and win it all this year to have a chance at Oklahoma. Ask War Pigs, and Hara's how great an experience it is.

Registered User Posts: 936 05/12/08 16:00:38	Right now, C and D Western Nationals are on a rotation between Regions 13, 14 and 15 -- Region 15 being Pacific NW. If the C is in Region 15, the D is in 13 or 14. If the D is in 15, the C is in 13 or 14. I think the answer is letting the same Region host the C and the D the same year. Every year, the National will be FAR closer than USSSA Worlds which has not seen the West Coast in I don't know how many years. And every three years, the National will be within driving distance for teams in this Region. If we don't change the rotation to this -- when Region 15 has the C, all the D and E teams that could possibly go to the D, will play the C because it is local and forego the D...and when Region 15 has the D, you will see teams trying to "revamp their championship roster" to be able to participate at the D because it is local. I applaud ASA for creating the Grand Nationals/Hooters Championship Series. And I think with the economy the way it is, going to the Zone Nationals was a smart move; especially since they adjusted the HCS to four teams in these classifications. I think just learning Territorialy what does or does not seem to work and adjusting to it is what is needed. If C was at Delta and D was in Boise or Seattle, I would hope the D teams from Portland/SW WA would go to the D instead of staying for the C. And if C was in Lancaster and D was in Sunnyvale, I would hope the D teams from SoCal would go to the D instead of staying for the C. *************** "Why am I using a different putter? If you guys want to blame someone, blame Mike Wells (idiot) and his classification committee. Oregon ASA answer to WaterGate. The reason Demarini is classified as a "D" team is because of these people. You want to blame someone you blame them. Hey heres an idea, Mike and his crew should stick to what they know best, little kids and Fastpitch softball, and leave the adult game to adults. Retired and proud
